NYC Plans City-Wide Free WiFi – New York is planning to build a citywide WiFi network out of its aging pay-phone infrastructure. After converting 10 pay-phones into WiFi hot spots last year, New York City's Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications is looking to convert all of them into hubs which will power a city-wide WiFi network.
Remember, NY city has a population of over 10 million, 5 million of who must be book readers; and that is a very conservative estimate.
